Creative Recreation was founded in the fall of 2002, in Los Angeles, California. Like any revolution, the driving force behind the birth of Creative Recreation was a sense of dissatisfaction with what their industry was offering. At the time, the footwear market consisted solely of two options; either a dress shoe to be worn with a suit, or an athletic sneaker that did not fit into the functions of an individual’s everyday lifestyle. There simply wasn’t an option for a young professional living his life with style. Noticing this huge void, the two long time friends and colleagues decided to create a solution.Inspired by both the void in the footwear industry and the change in social currents, the two founders set out to design a shoe that they simply “wanted to wear”. By sampling the best aspects of other footwear categories, the two incorporated the comfort of an athletic sneaker with the materialization of a dress shoe, and created the ultimate crossbreed.
